Rigoletto Opera Essay

Emily Proffitt Blanka Roundtree Art 211 26 September 2017 Rigoletto Rigoletto has been the first opera I ever watched from start to finish.  I thought it was good even though the plot was very predictable.  This opera was written in 1851, by Giuseppe Verdi, but the video I watched was filmed in 1982.  The filming was not very good and it was clearly not put on professionally.  All the acting was done on one stage so transitioning from scene to scene must have been a challenge but they did a good job of it.  This particular recording of Rigoletto was more of a movie so they did not show the changing of backdrops and characters from scene to scene.   When I was watching this video is reminded me a lot of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet because in a way they are both about forbidden love.  The scene in Rigoletto when Gilda is singing on the balcony is exactly like the scene in Romeo and Juliet when Juliet is singing off the balcony.  They are both singing about their loves

Madama Butterfly

Madama Butterfly Review The Madama Butterfly animation was an interesting opera.  It was probably the first full opera I have ever watched but it had an engaging plot line to it.  A women had a sex with a sailor and then he sailed away and she was pregnant.  She had their kid and waited for his arrival back home.  The women did not cut the umbilical cord so they remained connected.  The sailor finally arrived back and he pulled up in a car with a tall blonde women and kids in the back seats.  He walked up to the women and took their kid and cut the umbilical cord to separate them.  The women is devastated and alone when he leaves and she appears very sad. Watching this video as a girl I can understand how she must feel in this video.  Getting your baby taken away from you could possibly be the worst thing to have happen to you.  Not to mention this women was probably picturing a life together with this sailor and I can only imagine the disappointment when he pulled up with another

Raul Cuero's interview

Raul Cuero's interview on creativity was filled with so much interesting information.  In the beginning he talks about how both his parents could not read or write but he promised himself he would never be like that so he focused extra hard in school to be the person he wanted.  When he went to Colombia for school he experienced discrimination for the first time and people would make him think that he had no value off the basketball court.  He turned his negativity into something positive and furthered his education so he could prove himself to people.   He now has nine scientific inventions to his name and is very successful. I think that is all people were like him more people would be successful and happy.  This is be applied to everyone by focusing on your dream and not letting people stop you on your way there. One thing that Raul Cuero said is that "good things take time" and "everything is a process".  I 100% agree with this because nothing can come

Butterfly-Pencil  I have combined a pencil and butterfly into one object.  Both are simple objects to draw so combining them was fairly easy.
